First Showing of Work, 19 July

The first showing of my work seemed to go without a hitch. We had a queue for The Low Groom booth which went an hour over its scheduled duration. I found it difficult getting work to show after only one month, and as a result some work was much better than others, and I did try and explain this in the program notes. The 2 video screens show a work by Singaporean artist Dana Lam, alongside my response to the work after hearing about it, even though i hadnt seen it. The plan is to experiment with these works as projections onto the body in VOYEURAGES. No escaping polotics in this country, and as a result, this video material is my first ever poltical material.

X'ho film showing

Last night i had the great pleasure to organise a private screening of some films by a Singaporean artist, writer, perfomer, DJ and general all round singaporean man Chris Ho.
Two of his films where shown to a small select audience of friends and crew, some seeing themselves in the movie for the first time.
These films may not be shown otherwise for a variety of reasons, and it was great to see them - even just for me!
Find out more about X'ho at his site, http://www.xhosux.com

WORK IDEAS
Still working with different ideas: here i am trying something with the similarity between feedback and some species of Singaporean bird, looking at the Theatreworks pillars as trees.
Want to do something with tissues, as everyone else here does...
Now doing something with the MrBrown Show ban....Have been sick so that has slowed down the pace...

artist talk and leisure on a weekend

ARTIST TALK last Thursday went ok, met a few interesting people from noise punks to composition lecturers and sound artists. Its strange talking about your own work, you wonder about half way through if this could be at all vaguely interesting for anyone. I have no patience for many of my old works now....family is now in town with me, makes for quite a different feeling. A weekend of food safari, swimming in pools attatched to resort like apartment buildings, low flying military aircraft, rain and idle chit chat. Computer crash and recovery.
Gradually meeting more artists here but slowly slowly i wonder if collaborations are a possibility. Hope to spend some time around differnt areas of Singpaore this week, out of the urbanity for a little while. Still feeling guilty about sitting in this incredible space with a computer and headphones.
Thanks Shiang for the photo.

week 2

well the tweeter sotong has moved, its just an attempt to get my head out of the computer. I feel now like i am meeting more people and things are starting to get more interesting. THe binaural recordings turned out ok,best ones were some mapped walks in the botanic gardens where in the left ear you hear the traffic and building on the other side of the bushy fence, in your right ear you hear the sounds of birds and children.
Spinning around in front of a large airconditioner is the best though. i will pitch down and use it for a performance installation if all goes well
